I'm about 1/3 of the way through "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls. It's a memoir and they made a movie out of it (haven't seen it yet but hope to see it, if it comes to Netflix or the dollar theater). Part of the reason I want to see the movie (before I started reading, and found out there is a spanking, which I'd guessing probably did not make it into the movie) is that while watching the trailer, my first impression of "older" Jenneatte Walls is that looks just like a disciplinarian. See the photo below. Don't you agree?
Here's a little excerpt from the book:
Lori undertstood Mom better than anyone. It dind't bother her that when Miss Beatty showed up to ovserve Mom's class, Mom started yelling at Lori to prove to Miss Beatty that she was capable of discipling her student. One time Mom went so far as to order Lori up to the front of the class, where she gave her a whipping with a wooden paddle.
"Were you acting up?" I asked Lori when I heard about the whipping.
"No," Lori said.
"Then why would Mom paddle you?"
"She had to punish someone, and she didn't want to upset the other kids," Lori said.
Great book! I highly recommend you buy the book or watch the movie, if you haven't already. There may be more spankings in the book, but as I mentioned I'm only partially through reading the book.
Uhmmmm, May I borrow this book from You? Please?
